Pirates and Prayers

I opened my hall closet today and found these:

This isn't unusual. I find these guys everywhere! They're in the bathroom sink right now too. But today when I saw them it just melted my heart. Yes, I'm a sentimental weepy mother and I had a "mom moment". It comes with the job. I just wondered how many more years of little pirates in my closet I get to enjoy? I know I'll miss them someday.

Sunday night Jason preached about prayer. He gave the example of how a pregnant woman (especially the last few weeks of pregnancy) is CONSUMED with her unborn child. Every movement and feeling only heightens her awareness of the baby. The baby weighs heavy on her (not only physically, but mentally and emotionally too)! That's how it is to be in a constant state of prayer. Everything that happens around us should send us to the throne of God. Weather we experience joy or sorrow, health or sickness, prosperity or need.

What do pirates have to do with prayer? I'm trying to bathe my parenting in prayer. I long for every sentimental "mom moment" I have throughout the day to send me to the Lord! I find myself praying most often when I need wisdom to deal with a discipline issue. That's kind of my crisis prayer though. I long to intercede for my children throughout the day in all kinds of situations with adoration, thanksgiving, and supplication. As I practice the presence of the Holy Spirit perhaps the "pirates in my closet" moments I encounter will reap heavenly benefits in my children's lives as they send me to the Father on their behalf!

Thanks for the reminder--I need this reminder daily-- I might just have to stop by your blog every day and read this.

What a sweet reminder, my friend! Prayer sets our hearts aright. The moments fly by and I too am seeking to do a better job at making them teachable. But...my heart has to be ready to deal in a humble and loving way. Thanks. I needed that!

I loved this entry Beth- How true. I never want them to grow up and only have the memories left. It sure helps yo cherish each day.

Thanks for the encouragment! I wish I could appreciate things in the moment as much as I do in memory. This especially hits me when I hug them tight and kiss them and smell their hair just before putting them down to bed. I'm not going to want to smell their hair when they hit Jr High :)
